This was our kitchen when we moved in. An original 1975 kitchen. Over the last year and a half, we wanted to update it, but the project seemed overwhelming and way too expensive.
Then we finally bit the bullet and decided to update it ourselves. That meant not a total gut job, but an update that would work for our family. First up was removing the double oven, that sometime worked fine and other times burnt our food.
The oven was in a giant cabinet that Grant removed. Once it was out, the space already seemed bigger.
Next up was removing the upper cabinets that separated the kitchen and nook area. First Grant removed the hood vent
and then the cabinet itself.
With that gone, the kitchen was beginning to not feel so closed in.
Demo Done!
Grant installed the new microwave and put in an upper cabinet.
Good Job!
New Stove
Then he built a side cabinet next to the microwave and one next to the stove.
Meanwhile, he pulled out the cook top and removed the beautiful counter tops and backslash.
It was challenging at times to live through this kitchen remodel, but so worth it!
Then it was shopping time. We found a granite we liked for the counter tops.
Next, we removed some very old and dirty wall paper.
We decided to extend the counter tops, to have an eat-at bar.
Getting there
More Shopping! We looked at a few options for the back splash and went with the one on the right.
Uncle Steve came to the rescue with the back splash. There is no way we could have done it without him!
Pretty back splash, but LOTS and LOTS of cuts!
Love it!
Then they grouted it...
Next Grandpa came to the rescue. We had florescent lights before and Grandpa replaced them with can lighting. What a HUGE different this made.
Finally it was time to have a drywall guy come in and repair the ceiling.
Here are the before and afters...
We are so thankful for this new space!
